About This Course

Applied Mathematics constitutes an essential component in the rigorous study and analysis of phenomena encountered in chemistry. This course is designed for second-year chemistry students and aims to provide a solid foundation in key mathematical methods, particularly multiple integrals and differential equations. These tools are indispensable for modeling complex systems, quantifying physical and chemical processes, and analyzing variations in both time and space. Through this course, students will develop the analytical skills required to formulate, interpret, and solve problems arising in scientific contexts with accuracy and methodological rigor.

Objectives:

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Recall the fundamental concepts, definitions, and basic properties of multiple integrals and differential equations.
  • Explain the meaning and interpretation of these concepts in mathematical and applied contexts.Explain the geometric meaning of double and triple integrals.
  • Use appropriate methods to compute multiple integrals and solve differential equations in standard situations.
  • Examine problems to identify suitable techniques, interpret domains, and classify differential equations.
  • Formulate and develop mathematical models of real-world phenomena using multiple integrals and differential equations.

Requirements

  • Algebraic Operations: proficiency in algebraic manipulations and basic calculations.

  • Common Functions: knowledge of standard functions and their properties.

  • Differentiation: understanding of derivatives and the associated calculation techniques.

  • Basic Integration: proficiency in antiderivatives and basic integration techniques.

  • Trigonometry: basic knowledge of trigonometric functions and their relationships.
